Pitcher has ‘crazy’ day in Denver The odds of hitting for the cycle and pitching a perfect game in one game are considerable. But that’s what Jobi Wall of Denver’s Faith Christian High School did Saturday during Class 3 A district play. “It was pretty crazy,” Wall said. “I don’t even know how it happened.” Wall, a 6-6 senior right-hander, struck out six batters and retired 15 in a row in a five-inning 18-0 victory over Coal Ridge. The left-handed batter who plays shortstop when not pitching tripled, singled, doubled and homered in only four innings. “I was kind of aware of it, then it happened,” Wall said. “My teammates were very supportive. Everything went right and I got a lot of lucky bounces.”

Romo shot a 5-over-par 75 Wednesday in a local qualifying event for the Open, finishing f our shots out of a playoff for the eighth and final spot for a chance to compete in a sectional qualifying event. “I found a good rhythm on the backside, but it just took too long to get started,” said Romo, who had five video cameras and 25 people following him. “I just haven’t been able to practice or prepare. I’ve got a lot of football stuff. That’s part of it.” The U. S. Open is June 9-12. The Cowboys have organized team activities June 10-12, then their lone minicamp June 17-19. However, Romo will be at the Open as a celebrity guest for an event June 6.
Shortchanged NCAA career rushing leader Danny Woodhead was not selected in the NFL Draft, but he’s in the New York Jets’ minicamp after signing a free-agent contract. Part of the reason Woodhead was not drafted, despite rushing for 7, 962 yards in four years at NCAA Division II Chadron (Neb. ) State, is his height. Listed at 5-7, he said he’s
1 actually 5-7 / 2. “People forget the half inch,” he said. Today’s sports quiz From Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times: “The ultimate example of ‘total disregard for the bottom line’ would be: “ a ) The Giants giving a pitcher with four consecutive years of double-digit losses a $ 126 million contract. “ b ) The Sonics abandoning the nation’s 14 th-largest media market so they can move to the 45 th-largest. “ c ) John Daly bending over to pick up a golf ball.”
