Whether your relationship with television is one of long-standing devotion or more of a casual thing, you can probably think of a list of shows you’ve loved.

Some have made you laugh. Some have made you cry. Some have made you think. Some have just made you angry.

For the On TV Contest, the judge wants you to think back over the shows you’ve loved and answer this question: What’s your favorite TV series ?

Is there one show that sticks out in your mind ? One series that will always cause you to stop when you’re flipping through the channels ?

Maybe Eight Is Enough captured your heart years ago. Or maybe just hearing the opening theme to The Brady Bunch carries you away on a tide of happy memories. Or are you partial to The Partridge Family ?

The judge isn’t here to judge your choice, only the way you present it. So feel free to be honest, no matter how goofy or bizarre you think your answer is.

Just be sure to follow the rules.

For starters, the series you choose must be a scripted or “reality” show. No news programs, specials or sporting events are allowed here.

Also, you may only select one series. No cheating, either. At least 75 percent of your entry should be about that show. If you spend half your entry talking about The Mod Squad and Mission: Impossible before finally getting around to your favorite, The Avengers, you’ll be disqualified.

As usual, your entry can take any form you choose. Just be sure you explain your choice.

Send the entry (one per contestant ), including your mailing address and daytime phone number, to Jennifer Nixon at jnixon@arkansasonline. com. Entries must be received no later than 3 p.m. today.

The reader with the best-written entry will win the chance to choose from Judge Nixon’s Fabulous Prize Pile of TV DVD sets.

Who can enter: Anyone except the winner of the last contest, Sheryl Stephens of Bella Vista. And no Democrat-Gazette employees.

What about cartoons and children’s shows ? Do they qualify ? Absolutely ! The judge is well aware that the love for shows like Sesame Street, The Electric Company and Scooby-Doo, Where Are You ! can last a lifetime. Write about them with the judge’s blessing.

Note to privacy-conscious readers: We do not compile lists of mail or e-mail addresses for evil plots or marketing purposes. All entries are destroyed after the judge has selected her winner.

Note to sticklers for the truth: TV Judge Nixon is not a government official. “TV judge” is a made-up title.
