DECATUR — Grand Insurance and Financial Services has a new location and a new owner.
Will Lane bought the business from the Decatur State Bank in January and settled into the new offices which are located in the new Decatur State Bank building. A grand opening is planned for May 16. The brand new location features several private offices, as well as a conference room and reception area. The business offers life, health, auto, home, farm, commercial, truck and liability insurance, and also offers annuities. Chris Flynt, CPA, works part time at the office and provides customers with accounting services and tax preparation.
Lane said he hopes to bring in someone that will offer investment and marketing services in the near future.
Lane has been in the insurance business since 1997, after he returned to Langley, Okla., to help his grandfather with the agency he opened in 1970. Since then, Lane has taken over the family business and currently has three agents working in the Langley office.
Lane was raised in Jay, Okla., and graduated from Jay High School. He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Oklahoma State University. After graduation, Lane worked for IBP Corporation’s New York office in sales and public relations before returning to Oklahoma.
When it comes to insurance, Lane said that most companies keep their rates competitive, so the only difference is the agent.
“ We work for you, not a big company. We have 20 companies we can choose from. ” Lane said.
The competition allows Lane to get the best rates for customers.
“ It gives my customers, the people I work for, the best coverage for the least amount of money, ” Lane said.
One of Lane’s specialties is poultry farms. He insures farms in Oklahoma, Missouri and in Arkansas — as far away as Fort Smith. With a background in agriculture, Lane has personal knowledge of farmers ’ needs.
“ I understand what farmers face, with the rising cost of diesel and feed, so we try to save them a little bit on their insurance, ” Lane said.
Lane grew up on a farm and currently owns a cattle farm a few miles west of Maysville. His wife Tamara teaches at the Siloam Springs School, and the couple are enjoying their two children in the country.
“ Decatur’s a really nice community, we’ve been blessed to move here, ” Lane said.
