Andy Mar has completed his Class “ A” training with the Professional Golfers’ Association of America.

Mar, the golf operations manager for the Bella Vista Village Property Owners Association, started the PGA program seven years ago. He received his membership in February 2008, a POA news release said.

PGA members earn their status by undergoing a multi-year series of work, study and training in every aspect of golf, including teaching, tournament management and golf-shop operations. Members must maintain their status through a variety of continuing education programs, according to the PGA Web site.

Mar, who has a bachelor’s degree in recreation administration and a minor in business administration from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., started the program while working as an assistant golf professional at the Owasso Golf and Athletic Club in Owasso, Okla.

There are approximately 28, 000 PGA professionals in the world, he said. Mar is one of three PGA professionals working at the POA. Chuck Ritter and Mike Singletary are the other two golf professionals.
