Mike Horton and Joel Jones, the challengers to longtime District 7 Justice of the Peace Jim Wozniak, are the kind of people we like to see get involved in politics. They're young and seem interested in their communities.
But we feel both would require a lot of seasoning to become effective JPs - and now is not the time to replace a steady, knowledgeable elected official such as Jim Wozniak.
The county is facing a number of challenges, and its resources for addressing those challenges are limited. In the months and years ahead, institutional memory like Wozniak's could prove invaluable. And timing aside, there's no reason we can see to replace Wozniak. He's done a good job.
We encourage Horton and Jones to stay interested and involved. The county needs future leaders. But Jim Wozniak has our support.
