Mother's Day, a time to honor all mothers, is today - right in the middle of this crazy American election season. While we ponder our choices at the U. S. polls, consider what a great place the whole world would be if mothers were in charge.

I think we would have a much more peaceful place to inhabit. Moms are just not big on hitting or beating on each other. I can imagine some of the new rules: As long as we're living under the same sky, we're going to get along. And I mean now. From this instant on, there will be no more shooting at each other or acting like goofballs. Do you understand ? All right.

We're going to start working together. We're going to help each other, after all, we're all responsible for making this Earth a good place to live. So clean up after yourselves. Don't make a big mess and leave it or push it in the ocean or under the ground. You clean it up right and leave it tidy. Got it ? Good.

And there's not a bit of use in wasting all the wonderful gifts our planet provides for us. Don't take more of anything than you really need. There are a lot of us here and we need to think of each other. When we have more than we need of a resource, we can probably find someone who could use it. We don't want to be selfish, do we ? We want to share and share happily when we have extra.

Finally, I think we need to begin acting like the generous, kind people we are. We may not all look alike, but we all want the same things. We want to feel happy and loved and safe. We want those things for our children and for ourselves. Together, we can make that happen. Think about it. Look for the goodness in each other's hearts and help them see the goodness in your own. Well, maybe someday mothers throughout the world will be able to take the reins or, at least, pass along some sound, motherly advice to leaders. Until that time, please remember to eat your vegetables, brush and floss and get to bed at a reasonable hour. There's nothing more important than your health. Happy, happy Mother's Day.
