GOLF American Legion Tournament American Legion Post 341 will host a golf tournament Saturday, April 5, at Kingswood Golf Course in Bella Vista. The tournament starts at 9 a. m. Entry fee is $ 45 for POA members and $ 60 for non-POA members. Carts not included. There will be three flights with payouts to the top three teams in each flight. A cookout will follow at the Riordan Pavilion. Proceeds will benefit the Fayetteville Veterans Home, the Wounded Warriors Project and morale building packages to be sent to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Fore more information call (479 ) 876-1108. Bella Vista Men’s 18-Hole Golf Association Applications for the Bella Vista Men’s 18-hole Golf Association are due March 15. The cost is $ 60, which includes handicap fee and spring banquet. The banquet is set for March 25 at 5: 30 p. m. at Riordan Hall. Applications are available at all Bella Vista golf pro shops or on the POA web sight. Women’s 5-hole association The Bella Vista Women’s 5-hole Association will kick off its season with a brunch at Metfield Clubhouse on Monday, March 31, at 9 a. m. for registration and social hour. The annual membership fee is $ 12 and the brunch is $ 9. Send checks to Nancy Will, 37 Grier Drove, Bella Vista, 72715 by the Friday, March 14, deadline to be included in the membership booklet. Now in its 28 th year, the league scores only the first five holes of weekly play on either Monday or Wednesday. The first play date will be April 7. Bella Vista Women’s 18-hole club The Bella Vista Women’s 18-Hole Golf Club will hold its spring meeting March 27 at the First United Methodist Church on Boyce Drive in Bella Vista. Registration forms are now available at all pro shops and on the Property Owners Association Web site, www. bellavistapoa. com. Doors will open at 8 a. m. with brunch being served at 8: 30. Cost for the spring brunch is $ 7 and is due by March 22. Members are encouraged to bring a can of food which will be donated to a charitable organization in the area. Bella Vista Women’s 9-hole Association Bella Vista Women’s 9-hole Golf Association will hold its opening brunch for the 2008 season on Monday, March 31, at Riordan Hall. Registration begins at 9 a. m. with brunch following. Pre-paid reservations are required and the deadline is Wednesday, March 26. New and returning members please attend to hear what’s planned for 2008. Bella Vista Men’s 9-hole Association The Bella Vista Men’s 9-hole Golf Association is accepting new members for the 2008 season, from beginners to old pros. Join and play nine holes at Berksdale or Kingswood on Wednesday mornings from April through October. Players are flighted into four flights according to handicaps. Hole prizes are given for each week’s play. The Spring Kickoff Banquet will be Wednesday, March 26. A Fall End-of-Season Banquet will be held the last Wednesday in October. Annual dues are $ 50 which includes a $ 5 handicap fee. In addition, the Hole-in-One Club is a voluntary $ 3 and banquets are $ 3 each. First play day is April 2. TENNIS PInnacle Junior Program Pinnacle Country Club’s spring junior tennis program begins the week of March 24. Classes are offered for ages 3-18 and for all levels of players. BASEBALL Bentonville team holding tryouts A 12-year-old Bentonville-based competitive baseball team is holding tryouts for the 2008 season. The team will play in 16 local baseball tournaments. Senior Babe Ruth meeting The Northwest Arkansas Senior Babe Ruth league will hold an organizational meeting March 10 at 7 p. m. at the Jones Center in Springdale. The meeting will cover all aspects of league play, costs and eligibility and is open to returning coaches, Babe Ruth officials and those interested in team entry. BASKETBALL 3 on 3 youth tournament A 3 on 3 youth basketball tournament will be held Saturday, March 8, at the HLM Youth Center across from Lincoln Junior High in Bentonville. Signups are March 1 from 10 a. m. to 2 p. m. at both HLM and the Coleman Rec. Center. Entry fee is $ 10 per player / minimum three players and maximum of five players per team. Team Arkansas Elite 2012 Team Arkansas Elite 2012 is an AAU boys basketball team that was established in 2003. The team is looking for a few players for the 2008 spring and summer season. Players need to be born after Sept. 1, 1993 and / or currently in the eighth grade. The team will start its next season in late February and play in AAU events and top tier tournaments. Cheerleading Rogers Youth Cheerleading Program Rogers Community-School Recreation Association registration for the 2008 Youth Cheerleading Program will be taken until May 10 at the Rogers Activity Center. Girls in grades 4-8 for the 2008-09 school year are eligible to participate. The registration fees are as follows: ($ 65 ) includes cheer uniform, poms, and clinic or ($ 40 ) if those who cheered last year, will be in the same division, and on the same team. Cheerleader will not receive a new uniform or poms.. Each participant must have a current RAC membership ($ 20 ). The membership is current for one year from the date of purchase. Blues U 19 ’s regular season is in the spring competing in the Arkansas Youth Rugby Association. The Blues practice each Tuesday and Thursday at old Tiger Stadium in Bentonville. SOCCER Joe Thoma Soccer Academy John Brown University women’s soccer coach Joe Thoma is hosting his camp for girls on the JBU campus in Siloam Springs for the 22 nd year. Camp dates are June 15-19 (Sunday through Thursday. Cost is $ 375 for residential campers (girls only ages 9-18 ), $ 250 for commuters (girls only ) and $ 85 for half-day campers (boys and girls ages 6-10 ). All-Star School at JBU The 18 th annual All-Star Soccer School will take place June 22-26 on the campus of John Brown University in Siloam Springs. Campers ages 9-18 will take part in four full days of soccer instruction, games and other activities. The All-Star Soccer School is directed by Bob Gustavson, coach of the John Brown University Golden Eagles soccer team. Along with Gustavson, outstanding college, high school and youth coaches as well as college and professional players will conduct sessions. Cost for the camp are $ 455 for residential campers and $ 305 for day campers, which includes all meals, camp T-shirt, a soccer ball, awards and instruction. SOFTBALL Fundamentals camp at Gentry Dave Johnson, North Coast Califonia’s three-time Softball Coach of the Year, will conduct a fundamentals camp on March 29 at Gentry High School. The camp will run from the 9 a. m. until 12: 30 p. m. The camp is $ 35 and is for players that are 10-and-under through 14-and-under. The girls will be grouped based on age and skill. All campers will receive a t-shirt. The camp is being sponsored by NWA Heat but it is not a fundraiser. All proceeds will go to travel and hotel expenses for instructors. Johnson has coached the Rancho Cotate in California to two North Coast State Championships and one runner-up and is currently ranked No. 2 in Class 3 A and No. 8 overall in the state. He will focus on proper throwing techniques including grip, footwork, rotation and follow through as well as fielding, base-running and hitting stance, grip and tracking and swing. The camp is limited as we will keep instructor / athlete ratios low and entries will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. There are team discounts. The program begins with girls currently in first grade, and goes up to “ 18 and Under” (girls who did not turn 19 before Jan. 1, 2008 ). Rogers Adult League registration Registration for the Rogers Community-School Recreation Association registration adult summer softball season will be taken March 1-31 at the Rogers Activity Center. There will be seven divisions offered: Men’s Open ($ 515 ), Men’s Industrial ($ 515 ), Men’s Sunday ($ 450 ), Men’s Church ($ 390 ), Women’s Open ($ 390 ), Women’s Church ($ 335 ) and Co-Ed ($ 335 ). Teams playing will be required to hit their own softballs. The softball must be either an A. S. A or N. S. A stamped softball. Men will hit a. 40 core and women will hit a. 44 core. League games will begin the week of April 28.
