Several local athletes get MOC invitation

BENTONVILLE - Benton County will be well represented at this week's 51 st annual Meet of Champions.

The season-ending track meet at Lake Hamilton, scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, features the state's best in each event.

The winner of each event from each of Arkansas' seven classes is automatically qualified and the state's next five best times or performances are invited to compete.

The list of invited athletes was released Saturday and includes athletes from Bentonville, Rogers, Gravette and Gentry.

Fresh off their second consecutive Class 7 A state title and the high school triple crown, the Rogers Mounties have seven individuals: Mikey Inthavong (triple jump ), Michael Tibbs (discus ), Cameron Efurd (1, 600 ), Taylor Surly (1, 600 and 800 ), Tyler Rose (800 ), Forrest Roth (3, 200 ) and Austin Young (300-meter hurdles ). The Mounties' 3, 200-meter and 1, 600-meter relays were also invited.

The Bentonville Lady Tigers also won back-to-back Class 7 A state titles and have six athletes in individual events: Jeanna Sheppard (100-meter hurdles ), Katie Dalton (1, 600 and 3, 200 ), Mackenzie Bloom (1, 600 and 3, 200 ), Shannon Sullivan (800 and 1, 600 ), Kayla Middlebrook (400 ) and Kayla Horton (800 ). The Lady Tigers' 1, 600-meter and 3, 200-meter relays were also invited.

The Rogers Lady Mounties will send Natalia Guerrero (1, 600 and 3, 200 ) and Courtney Efurd (1, 600 and 3, 200 ).

Bentonville's Ethan Sandusky (pole vault ) and Stephon Ferriel (800 ) were invited. The Tigers also have their 3, 200-meter and 1, 600-meter relays qualified.

After successful performances at the Class 3 A state meet, Gravette's Shelby Newell (triple jump ) and Michael Croasdell (100 ) were invited to the Meet of Champions.

Gentry's Kendra McCain (shot put ) was also invited to the MOC.
