Bella Vista

Frances Esther Byler Carpenter, 95, of Bella Vista, Ark., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista. She was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Prairie Home, Mo., to William Henry Byler and Lutetia Tandy Mills Byler. The youngest of nine children, she was raised and educated in Prairie Home, where she was valedictorian of her class. She married George Emil Carpenter on June 4, 1932. The couple moved to Bella Vista in 1975 and were members of the Bella Vista Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She played golf, bridge and mah jong. She had a weekly Bible study group and a weekly bridge group for 25 years. She had lived at Apple Blossom for four years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Carpenter, in 1996; a daughter, Gayle Yates, in 1998; and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include a daughter, Bette Sue Nirschl of Bella Vista; a son-in-law, Chuck Yates of Austin, Texas; three grandchildren, David von Nirschl of Arlington, Va., Chad Yates and his wife Diana Yates of Frisco, Texas, and Charmaine Enriquez and her husband Alex Enriquez of Austin; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. Saturday, May 10, at the Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Baker. Private entombment will be at the Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery in Rogers, Ark. Decatur

Steve Young, 49, of Decatur, Ark., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark. He was born Dec. 29, 1958, in Durant, Okla., to Ike Young and Letha Dills Young.

He was a brick mason. He was artistic and was a songwriter. He enjoyed playing guitar, doing brickwork and drawing. He was preceded in death by his father, Ike Young. Survivors include his wife, Wanda Young; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron Young and Jessica Young of Centerton, Ark.; a daughter, Katelynn Young of the home; his mother, Letha Young of Silo, Okla.; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, Danny Young and Kim Young of Fort Worth, Texas, David Young and James Young, both of Silo, and Robin Young, and Jody Young and Allison Young, all of Shawnee, Kan.; and a sister and brotherin-law, Becky Vanzandt and Mike Vanzandt of Mead, Okla. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 5 p. m. Saturday, May 10, at his home in Decatur. Cremation arrangements are by Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers, Ark. Gravette

Joseph Loren “Joe” Webb, 48, of Gravette, Ark., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital in Siloam Springs, Ark. He was born Dec. 21, 1959, in Gravette to Elzy Lee Webb and Ida Lou Leary Webb. He was a lifetime resident of Gravette and a graduate of Decatur (Ark. ) High School. He married Cindy Clark on Feb. 17, 1983. He was a heavyequipment operator for the city of Bentonville Street Department for 20 years and also raised beef cattle. He was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting and welding. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Webb; a son, Zack Webb of the home; a daughter, Amanda Webb of the home; six brothers, John Lee Webb, David Webb and Kenneth Webb, all of Gravette, Rex Webb of Centerton, Ark., and Dr. William Frank Webb and Gerald Webb, both of Decatur, Ark.; a sister, Lavon Torix of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews. Pea Ridge

Donald “Don” Henson, 72, of Pea Ridge, Ark., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Rogers, Ark. He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Bentonville, Ark., to Floyd Eugene Henson and Anna Irene Sullivan Henson. He married Alice Nida on Aug. 26, 1959, in Miami, Okla. He was a carpenter. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church in Pea Ridge, where he attended the men’s prayer breakfast. He enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Henson; and two brothers. Survivors include his wife, Alice Henson; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim Henson and Beth Henson of Pea Ridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy Frost and Mike Frost of Bentonville, Ark., and Trish Fitzner and Jerry Fitzner of Pea Ridge; a brother, Richard Henson of Bentonville; a sister, Jo Ann Ray of Dyer, Ark.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. Thursday, May 8, at Sisco Funeral Home of Pea Ridge. Funeral services will be at 10 a. m. Friday, May 9, at the First Baptist Church in Pea Ridge with Pastor Ellis Doyle and Pastor Jamie Doyle. Burial will be at the Pea Ridge Cemetery. Rogers

JoAnn Simons, 69, of Rogers, Ark., died Sunday, May 4, 2008, in Springdale, Ark. She was born Feb. 6, 1938, to Scoville Hust and Wilma Ann Woehler Hust.

She married Ted Simons on Oct. 15, 1955, at the Chapel of the Wedding Bells in Lakewood, Calif. She had been employed with Sterling Transit for 12 years and with Wal-Mart, retiring in 2000. She enjoyed cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Ted Simons; three sons, Rob Simons of Riverside, Calif., Don Simons of Rogers and Dean Simons of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Bill Hust of Midwest City, Okla.; seven grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A tribute of life service will be held at 2 p. m. Saturday, May 10, at the home of Don Simons, 8083 Elm Lane in Rogers. Arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home of Rogers. Seligman, Mo.

Raymond Earl “Ray” Slinker IV, 36, of Seligman, Mo. died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at his home. He was born Aug. 7, 1971, in Kelso, Wash., to Raymond Darrie Slinker and Donna Jeannette Straw. He moved to the area 33 years ago. He was a farmer and enjoyed playing the harmonica. Survivors include a daughter, Skylar Ann Slinker; his father, Raymond Slinker of Arizona; his mother, Donna Lundy of Seligman; a brother, Mike Slinker of Fayetteville, Ark.; and two sisters, Lisa Davis and Connie Pullen, both of Seligman.
