GHS track teams compete in conference meet at Gravette

GRAVETTE ó The Gentry girls took fourth and the Gentry boys took fifth in the 1-4 A track and field meet at Gravette Thursday.

Kendra McCain took another first in shot put with a throw of 35-0. 5. Terra Jones took sixth in the event with a 27-4 throw.

Justine Newlun took first in the 800 meter run with a time of 2: 53. 6. Ausha Griffin followed in second with a time of 2: 54. 7.

Jade Shawver took first in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 53. 82.

The girls took a first in the 4 x 400 relay with a time of 4: 42. Runners were Courtney Millsap, Ausha Griffin, Courtney Folker and Linay Walker. The Gentry girls also took first in the 4 x 800 meter relay with a time of 11: 42. The runners were Griffin, Folker, Walker and Newlun. The girls placed third in the 4 x 100 meter relay with a time of 55. 9.

Carol Casebeer took second in triple jump with a distance of 33-10. She also took third in long jump at 13-8. 7. Jade Shawver took fourth in triple jump with a jump of 31-8. 5.

Courtney Millsap also picked up a fifth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13. 61.

The girls scored 101 points, 39 points behind first-placed Gravette.

Eight girls have qualified to compete at the state level. They are: Carol Casebeer in the triple jump; Courtney Folker in the 3200 meter relay; Ausha Griffin in the 3200 meter relay, 800 meter dash and mile relay; Kendra McCain in shot put; Courtney Millsap in the 1600 meter relay; Justine Newlun in the 3200 meter relay, 800 meter dash and 1600 meter relay; Jade Shawver in the 300 meter hurdles and mile relay; and Linay Walker in the 3200 meter relay. For the boys, Caleb Jech tied with Dawson Urrutia of Union Christian with a high jump of 6-4. Caleb Ramsey came in fourth in the event, clearing 5-8.

Tucker Lewis took second in the pole vault with a vault of 10-10.

Nick Weeks came in second in shot put, throwing 39-6. Ethan Ramsey was sixth with a throw of 36-5.

Josh Holland took a secondplace spot in the 300 meter hurdles with a 44. 51 time. Nick Weeks took a third in the 110 meter hurdles at 18. 36.

In the discus, Caleb Ramsey threw 110-6 for a third-place spot, and his brother Ethan took fifth with a throw of 100-6. Caleb Ramsey also picked up a fifth in triple jump, at 38-04, and a sixth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56. 09.

The boys took a third- and a fifth-place spot, respectively, in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relays.

The boys had a total of 76 points, 83. 5 points behind firstplace Gravette.

Four boys have qualified to compete at the state track competition in Nashville next week: Caleb Jech in the high jump, Nick Weeks in the shot put, Josh Holland in the 300 meter hurdles, and Tucker Lewis in the pole vault.
