Coloring, poetry contests announced

Hey, kids ! Look in this weekís Gentry Courier-Journal and Decatur Herald for both a coloring contest and a poetry contest in which you can win prizes.
Both contests are sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, the Stamp Out Smoking program, Newspapers In Education and this newspaper, all of whom want youths to choose a tobacco-free lifestyle.
Children in kindergarten through third grades are invited to enter the SOS Coloring contest.
Look in this issue for the drawing of dancers to be colored, entry form and information about the 2008 Stamp Out Smoking Tobacco Education Coloring Contest.
Use crayons, paint, markers or colored pencils to color your entry. Please do not glue sequins or other items or tobacco products on the entries. Only one entry per child, please.
A grand prize of a zip-up carrier containing art supplies will be given to the first-place winner in each age division of the coloring contest.
The second- and third-place runners-up in each age division also will receive prizes.
Students in the 4 th through the 8 th grades are invited to write a poem to a ìfriend, î telling him or her all the reasons that smoking is bad and why he or she should stop. Students can enter the poetry contest as many times as they wish.
Prizes will be awarded in the poetry contest also.
All entries are due by 5 p. m., Thursday, May 22.
Entries can be mailed or delivered to the newspaper, P. O. Box 677, 103 N. Collins, Gentry, Ark. 72734.
Winners will be announced in the paper.
