Gentry City Council The Gentry City Council will next meet at 6: 30 p. m., Monday, Sept. 8, in the city court room. The Planning and Zoning Commission meets in city hall at 7 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. School Board The Gentry School Board will next meet at 6 p. m., Monday, Sept. 8., in the primary school cafeteria. The annual report to the public will be presented, with the district school board meeting to follow. Goat show Bloomfield 4-H will hold its second annual goat show and dinner at Gentry High School from 5 p.m. until dark, on Saturday, Aug. 30. The club will be serving hamburgers and hotdogs with all the trimmings and invites the community to come out for the event. Goat entries in the show are limited to the Bloomfield 4-H Club. Miss Gentry pageant The Miss Gentry and Tiny Tot pageants have been scheduled for 7 p. m., Friday, Aug. 29, in the high school auditorium. Candidates for the Miss Gentry title must be Gentry seniors. Tiny tot applicants must be between the ages of 3 and 5. Applications are available at city hall and on the school Web site. Antique tractor show The 17 th Annual Antique Engine and Tractor Show is set for Sept. 5 through 7 at the club's show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road, southwest of Gentry. Admission if free. For more information, call John Burger at 736-5800. Awards banquet Gentry Masonic Lodge # 222 will be having its annual awards banquet Aug. 28, with a potluck dinner at 7 p. m., and awards afterward. The public is invited to this open-house event. Biennial reunion The sixth alumni banquet will be held at the Gentry High School Cafeteria at 6: 30 p. m., Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, with doors opening at 5: 30 p.m. Seating is still available and a new caterer is being obtained. Farmers' market A Farmers' market is open on Tuesdays and Saturdays in Gentry at the east side of the Chicken Coop parking lot, on Main Street. Fishing Derby The fifth annual community fishing derby will be held Sept. 6 at Crystal Lake. There will be five age divisions for children ages 1 through 14. Registration will begin at 8: 30 a. m., and the derby will begin at 9 a.m. There will be prizes and games, and a picnic lunch for participants and their families will be served. For more information, contact Nicki Smith at 752-3351 or 238-6147. Pickin' in the park Pickin' in the park is set for 6: 30 p. m., the last Saturday of each month through September. Musicians and music lovers are invited to come and join in or just sit back and enjoy the music. Lawn chairs are suggested. Senior center The new Gentry Senior Activity Center, on Main Street, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p. m., Mondays and Wednesdays. Meals are served both days and are available by calling Jackie Bader at 736-2424. Singing services Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p. m., the first Friday of each month. Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome. The church is located northwest of Gentry on Falling Springs Road.
