GENTRY ó A resolution was passed at a special school board meeting Thursday to forgo opening polls for the Sept. 16 annual school election.

Because no change in the local millage rate is proposed and only one candidate has filed a petition for election in Zone 2 and no other board positions are open for election this year, the resolution was passed unanimously by board members present to request that polling places not be opened for the election date.

As a result, only absentee ballots and early ballots will be cast in the election. Last yearís election cost the school district between $ 1, 200 and $ 1, 300, plus the cost of lunches for the poll workers, said Gentryís school superintendent, Dr. Randy Barrett. Not opening the polls since there are no contested races will result in a big savings to the district.

In other action at the special meeting, transfer requests were approved for three students transferring into the district from the Bentonville School District.
