Teams finish season at state competition

GENTRY ó Both Gentry soccer teams ended the season in the first round of the 4 A state soccer tournament, April 26, at Burns Park in North Little Rock.
Our boys lost 5-0 to Central Arkansas Christian, the topranked boysí team in 4 A. They were an outstanding team, and I was pleased with our overall performance.
The girls lost 3-0 to Lutheran, the team which finished second to the Central Arkansas Christian girls during the regular season. Again, I thought our girls played well. We have definitely closed the gap on the state competition, the difference in the match is really a few little things here and there that will come with continued work and experience.
For both of our teams, the state tournament was a great experience. We are disappointed not to advance further, however, well-played matches against two quality opponents certainly do nothing to diminish fine seasons by both our teams during 2008. We plan to take a week off and then begin preparing for 2009.
