Museum offering wide-range of upcoming events

Through Aug. 16 – Exhibit on "Promoting Siloam Springs Businesses"featuring vintage and other items related to promoting Siloam Springs businesses through the years. The exhibit will include posters, calendars, tokens, business cards and more from Don Cundiff's private collection. The museum is located at 112 N. Maxwell St. and is open 10 a. m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 479-524-4011 for details.

Aug. 23 through Oct. 29 – Exhibit on: "Arrowheads, Spear points, Knives & Drills: Some Stone Tools Found Near Siloam Springs. "Many people enjoy hunting for arrowheads in the fields and river valleys of this area. To archaeologists, these artifacts tell the story of the people who once lived here.

Sept. 6 – Walking Tour of the Downtown National Register Historic District at 10 a.m. led by Don Warden, Director, Siloam Springs Museum. Depart from the museum at 112 N. Maxwell Street.

Sept. 27 - "Discovering the Bluff Dwellers"at 2 p.m. A program presented by Gaye Bland, Director of the Rogers Historical Museum (and former director of the Siloam Springs Museum ). This lecture and Power Point presentation will tell the story of how area residents and professional archaeologists discovered the objects left behind by the Indians who used the bluff shelters along the White River as places to live, process and store foods, and bury their dead. Information will also be provided about how today's archaeologists continue to research the objects found in earlier days, and how that research is changing our interpretations about the Indians who used the bluff shelters.

Sept. 28 - "Pride of the Ozarks Chorus Concert & Ice Cream Social"at 2 p.m. in the Sager Creek Arts Center. This is a fundraiser for the Siloam Springs Museum.. The Pride of the Ozarks Chorus has been performing in Northwest Arkansas for 12 years. All of its members are active in the Ozark chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Barbershop chorus and barbershop quartet performances of songs from the 1900 s-1950 s will be featured. An ice cream "buffet"will be available, offering regular as well as sugar-free ice cream and "fixings"for an old fashioned treat. Cost: $ 10 per person. Reservations are encouraged but not required.

Oct. 11 - "Preservation, Restoration and Renovation-What They Are & When To Do Them "at 2 p.m. This is a rare opportunity to hear and learn from Rick Parker, a Master Conservator, who was trained at the Smithsonian Institution and has been a professional conservator for more than 20 years.
