Area swim team takes third at state

BENTONVILLE - The Northwest Arkansas Aquatics swim team accomplished its goal at last weekend's Arkansas Swimming Inc., Long Course Age Group Championships.

The Sharks finished third with 502. 5 points but had several swimmers earn new qualification times.

Little Rock's Dolphin-Laser Swim team won the meet with 1, 232 points for its third straight state title and the newly-merged Razorback Aquatic Club Aquahawgs were second with 701 points.

The Sharks had four swimmers make new sectional cuts, including Lauren Tininenko, who won three events in the Girls'13-14 year-old age division.

She won the 200-meter backstroke, 100 back and tied in the 100 butterfly. She was also second in the 50 freestyle.

Clara Bracy, Jimmy Parker and Erin Suchy also made sectional cuts.

The Sharks also added two swimmers to their roster for next week's Central MegaZone Swimming Championships in Indianapolis.

Harry Cole, who won the 50 fly in the Boys'10-and-under division to qualify for the meet, and Hannah Cade will join 10 other Sharks for the meet.

Also going to the MegaZones meet are: Hunter Alexander, Clara Bracy, Katie Brown, Robert Murray, Jimmy Parker, Samuel Schaefer, Lauren Tininenko, Erin Suchy, John Overstreet and Eunsol Chon.

Chon took second in the Girls'11-12 year-old age division 100 backstroke.

Schaefer finished in the top three in six events, winning the 200 free and taking second in the 100 free, 50 free, 200 intermediate medley and 100 backstroke in the Boys'11-12 year-old age division.

Parker had two second-place finishes.

Schaefer, Tininenko and Pearson Gean were each runners-up in their division.

Justin Potter had three third place finishes at the state meet.

The Sharks also did well in the relays at the state meet, picking up seven top-three finishes.

The 11-12 year-old girls team of Megan Piotrowski, Chon, Alexa Tininenko and Cade were second in two relays.

Gean, Ben Suchy, Dale Bracy, Murray and Parker combined to take second in two relays in the Boys'15-18 year-old age division.
