Have you told your mom how special she is today ?

Have you bought your mom a gift today ?

In case you're wondering where I'm headed with this column, let me just remind you that today is Mother's Day.

It's the one day out of the year where every mom should take the day off from her motherly duties and let her husband or children pick up the slack.

I never thought how much I would miss having my mom around until I moved seven hours away from her. This will be the first year that I've been away from my mom on her special day and tears automatically roll down my cheeks.

I guess you could say moving to Arkansas was a sign of growing up for this Momma's Boy. Yes, that's right, I admit it ! I'm a Momma's Boy. How many guys my age or younger can say that and actually be proud of it ?

For the moms in the Siloam Springs community and surrounding areas, I commend you on this day.

For every child who has ever had a boo-boo on his knee or elbow and has had his or her mom there to kiss it back to normal, it's time to say thank you.

For every child who has spilled a drink at McDonald's and made a mess on the counter only to have his or her mom there to clean it up, it's time to say thank you.

For every child who has made an'A'in the classroom and had his or her mom smile back at them in congratulations, it's time to say thank you.

For every child that has scored a goal in soccer, hit a home run in baseball, spiked a ball over the net in volleyball, scored a touchdown in football or better yet, did their chores around the house without mom asking them to, it's time to say thank you.

See, moms are very important to our well-being, not only because they cook us our favorite meals, take the grass stains off our blue jeans, put the Neosporin on our scratches and mosquito bites or even provide us with allowance so we can go to the movies with our friends.

The job of being a mom is not easy and definitely never finished. I, for one, appreciate everything my mom has done for me.

My mom has attended every sporting event that I ever participated in, even if she didn't know that in baseball referring to a "can of corn"didn't mean going to IGA after the game. Instead it meant catching a flyball in the outfield.

My mom, to this day, supports me in all my decisions, even it means moving seven hours away and only getting to see her three times a year instead of every day.

My mom is respectful and a great Christian lady.

It's often said in life that the way you treat your mom is an example of how you will treat your wife.

I may not be the "Golden Child"but I will always honor my mom and tell her thanks for giving me life. On this day, take a backseat Mom and let me do the dirty work. I love you, Mom !
