The Washington County Quorum Courts first business of 2008 was to set the property tax rates for 2007.
The court levied the county, city and school district millage rates for 2007 at its first meeting of the year Thursday. The property tax rates for 2007 are collected in 2008.
Millage rates are generally set in November, but the county was granted a 60-day extension from the state in order to calculate rollbacks.
The county general millage was set at 4. 5 mills. The county road millage was set at 1. 1 mills, and the county library millage, which is collected throughout the county except for property within the city limits of Fayetteville, was set at 1 mill.
Following are the real estate / personal property tax rates for Washington County cities:
Fayetteville: 3. 1 mills
Springdale: 5. 6 mills
Elkins: 4. 8 mills
Greenland: 2. 8 mills
West Fork: 4. 9 mills
Winslow: 3 mills
Farmington: 4. 7 mills
Tontitown: 1. 9 mills
Elm Springs: 4. 9 mills
Johnson: 4. 7 mills
Prairie Grove: 9. 2 mills
Lincoln: 6. 3 mills

In other business, County Judge Jerry Hunton appointed Justices of the Peace Steve Zega, Micah Neal, H. L. Goodwin and Butch Pond to an energy subcommittee.
The committee, formed to study ways to reduce the countys carbon footprint and be more environmentally friendly, will attend a wind energy conference in Fort Smith on Jan. 17.
Additionally, the court approved the appointment of Rick Johnson, administrator of the Washington County Health Department, to the Central Emergency Medical Service board of directors.
Johnson was recommended by Fayetteville Mayor Dan Coody to replace Paul Becker on the board as the representative of the city of Fayetteville.
