Coffee and cupcakes is what Youth Bridge will have to offer at its first-ever “ friendraiser” on Sunday.

The local organization, whose main goal is to help young people in Northwest Arkansas, will host a Sunday Soiree from 2-4 p. m. at the Fulbright Building, 217 E. Dickson St., in Fayetteville.

Nancy Hairston, director of development for Youth Bridge, said the event is informal and will allow people to come and hear real-life success stories from at-risk youth who found help at Youth Bridge.

“ Youth Bridge has never really been in the limelight, ” Hairston said. “ We’ve just been rolling along. ”

She said the group offers a variety of services for children in Northwest Arkansas such as shelters they can go to when they have nowhere else to stay. It also offers academic support, counseling for children dealing with troubled pasts and home lives, and social support services for youth to learn how to function in society.

“ The success stories have been absolutely phenomenal, ” Hairston said.

Youth Bridge officials hope the Sunday Soiree will show the public the good the organization does for the community and maybe garner some more volunteers and donors.

“ Our motto is: ‘ Building brighter futures, ’ and that is exactly what we do, ” Hairston said.

Anyone interested in learning about or helping Youth Bridge can go online to www. youthbridge. com or call 575-9471.

Hairston said any help and donations are always appreciated. She said it only takes $ 10 a day to feed and provide one young person with necessities.

“ There’s all kinds of ways people can help, ” she said. “ Just pick up a phone and call us. We love to talk. ”
