SILOAM SPRINGS - Brian Nitz, a Siloam Springs High School and University of Arkansas graduate, was hired as athletic trainer for the Siloam Springs Panther sports programs Tuesday during the regular school board meeting.

Nitz will serve as the athletic trainer for all Panther athletic programs for the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. He worked at St. John Sports Clinic in Joplin, Mo., for 10 years and at Webb City, Mo., as a teacher and athletic trainer for four seasons before working with a medical clinic in Joplin the past three years.

He is recognized by the Missouri State Board of Healing Arts as a certified trainer, and he has his National Athletic Trainer Board Certification. He has applied for Arkansas certification reciprocity as an Arkansas Certified Trainer.

"This hire is in line with one of our district core values of security and safety for our kids," Siloam Springs athletic director Kerwin Dees said. "We expect to have more than 550 kids per season in athletics this year at Siloam Springs. We expect Brian to help our coaches and kids with the care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries."

Dees said the district administrators are thankful to be able to use an existing teaching position to fill this need with an experienced person. Nitz will teach a full schedule at Southside Elementary before coming to help with the training duties after school each day.

"We have a staff of coaches that deeply care about kids, that work very hard, and that are very unselfish. I think Brian will be a great fit with our team and our values. "Dees said.
