The Fayetteville School District received the Spotlight Award at the sixth annual Work-Life Balance Awards ceremony on Wednesday in Little Rock.
The Work-Balance Awards are presented by the Governor's Family-Friendly Employer Initiative every year to Arkansas employers for establishing and providing resources that support employees in balancing the needs of both work and family, according to a press release on the event.
These employers and organizations are recognized on a gold, silver or bronze level, said Geania Dickey, the program coordinator for the Work-Balance Awards. In addition to the all-around awards, the judges present the Spotlight Award for an organization or employer who has a specific benefit or policy that stands out and goes above and beyond, Dickey said.
"Fayetteville Public Schools received the Spotlight Award because of their new fitness center and the expansion of that service to employees and retired employees," Dickey said. "The school district will receive an award from Gov. (Mike Beebe ), as well as have their achievement placed in a publication which is distributed to families, friendly employers and services showcasing the awards."
This is the first time for a school district to participate in the event, Dickey said. To be considered for a Work-Life Balance Award, employers must submit comprehensive applications with the services they wish to be recognized, she said.
