Volleyball Fayetteville vs. Rogers Heritage A three-game sweep (25-14, 25-7, 25-15 ) of overmatched Rogers Heritage on Sept. 30 at Bulldog Gym marked the beginning of Fayetteville's second swing through the 7 A-West Conference volleyball schedule.
Sophomore Shelby White's 13 kills led the Lady War Eagles, junior Madison Scott led the team in assists (17 ), and fellow junior Rachel Crum was the leader in digs (8 ).
Rogers vs. Fort Smith Southside After a week of distractions, the Lady Mounties ran away with a 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-21 ) win against Fort Smith Southside at W. E. King Arena on Oct. 2.
Two senior players quit the team before the start of the week, leaving the Lady Mounties with seven on the varsity roster.
An ace by junior setter Megan Pederson - who had 36 assists - and junior Brooke Anderson's block helped build a 5-0 led and another run capped by senior Melissa Clement's kill made it 13-2.
Senior Rachel Woodson, who led the team with 21 kills and 20 blocks, had four kills during another stretch as Rogers pushed the lead to 20-7. She finished the game with a kill and a block.
Rogers had another good start to Game 4 and then erased Southside's small lead with an 8-1 run that was started by backto-back kills by senior Chelsea Anderson and ended with three straight kills by Clement.
Anderson, who had 16 kills, 19 blocks and 21 digs, finished the match with back-to-back kills.
Clement and senior Amanda Gilchrist combined for a dozen kills as the Lady Mounties'big front row dominated the game.
Senior Ashley Brown led the Rogers back line, getting 28 digs in just her second varsity game at libero. Golf Rogers Alate charge got Rogers senior Haley Sanders into a thirdplace finish at the Class 7 A Girls State Golf Tournament at the Cypress Creek Golf Course at Cabot's Greystone Country Club.
That helped the Lady Mounties take second place overall.
Sanders shot a 70 as Rogers took second with 228.
Sanders dropped her score by three strokes and senior Laura Beth DuBois improved by 10 strokes, shooting a 76 on Sept. 30.
Both earn All-State honors.
Senior Jill Kinslow's 82 rounded out Rogers'scoring and was three strokes better than her score at conference.
Lindsey Wilson (86 ) and Kelsey Springwater (89 ) also played well at the state tournament.
Sanders shot a 31 on the back nine to stay close to the leaders but bogeyed her final hole, leaving her out of the playoff. Tennis Rogers vs. Springdale The Rogers Mountaineers defeated Springdale on Sept. 29 in a 7 A-West tennis match.
Austin Westbrook, Kyle Kelley, Trent Clinton, Taylor Marsh, Cody Averett, Nick Carter and Austin Paul all won singles matches for the Mounties.
Luke Pascoe / Westbrook, Michael McGill / Collin Jones and Marsh / Clinton all won doubles matches.
Rogers vs. Bentonville On Oct. 2, the Bentonville Lady Tigers closed out the regular season unbeaten in 12 matches with a 9-0 victory against Rogers (6-5 ) at the Rogers District Tennis Courts. The Tigers (11-1 ) completed the sweep with an 8-1 win against the Mounties (6-5 ).
