Senior Dillon Blankenship earned a trip to the 3 A State Championships later this month in Prescott where he will be joined by the Lady 'Hawks 4 x 400 meter relay team. Blankenship ran a time of 2: 11 to take second in the 800 meters while the girls were doing their four-lap relay in 4: 36. 7, also earning a second place finish and spot in the state finals.
Green Forest kept their strong dominance of 3 A-1 West track going as they won both the girls and boys championships, repeating the feat accomplished by their junior high squads earlier in the month.
The Tiger boys won with 161 followed by Eureka Springs 147, Elkins 130, Shiloh 126, Lincoln 37 and Pea Ridge 37. On the girls' side, the Lady Tigers racked up a massive score of 308, outscoring the rest of the district teams put together. Elkins finished second with 180, Shiloh 45, Eureka Springs 42 and Pea Ridge 40.
Two Lady 'Hawk runners just missed on state qualification from district with third place finishes. Jenny Small ran third in a very tough 800 field with a time of 2: 36. 8 while Veronica Henderson was just short of state with a third place time of 14: 38 in the 3200 meter run.
Henderson was the only Pea Ridge athlete to score in two individual events as the 'Hawks' top runner from cross country also finished fifth in the 1600 meter run in 6: 19. Other scorers for the Blackhawks include: Erin Duvall, seventh in the 200 in 30. 55; Lauren Simmons, eighth in the 3200 in 16: 51; and Lacie Luff, fifth in the shot put with a 27-11 throw.
The Lady 'Hawks' other relay teams finished fourth in the 4 x 800 (12: 57. 7 ) and fifth in the 1 x 400 (59. 04 ).
