Changes happening at the Senior Center
Posted on Thursday, September 4, 2008
Good morning. It's nice and cool this morning and that's the way I like it.
Today my friend Lena Collier is on my mind. Her daughter went to heaven to live with her Savior on Sunday morning. Please remember Lena and her family in your prayers.
As for our Senior Center, we are having a lot of changes again. All this is hard for my brain and heart to comprehend. Kay Curtis was over from Harrison yesterday. She told us Tammie is quitting. We asked her when, and she told us," Today is her last day. "We could not believe Tammie would leave and not tell us good-bye or something.
I don't blame you, Tammie, for retiring. You have put up with us for a long time (me, especially -- always griping at you for not making gravy ). I didn't want you to take it to heart and quit, because I love you.
We are also getting a new director. Jennifer's last day will be Sept. 11. Of course, I don't blame her either because she is expecting a new baby and wants to stay home and be a mommie. What mother doesn't want to do that ? But not all are lucky enough to get to. So good luck to Jennifer and Tammie both on whatever they choose to do from now on.
Yesterday our guys and gals played baseball after lunch. We really had fun and a close game. I don't know why but for some reason the left side usually bests the right side. They are never the same ones playing on the same team, but I'm going to say the left side wins seven games out of 10. Tuesday the right side won. They had four players: Doris, Larry, Helen and Willis. The left side had Mildred Daniel, Vol, Edna and Ms. Red. The game was tied or was one or two points ahead the whole game. Every time the right side got behind, they would say," Yeah, but we just have four players and you all have five. "So congratulations to the right side you were the winners for a change. That Larry is a good player. He doesn't play all that much. Larry they need you to go to Harrison with them to play in the Beanbag Baseball World Series on Sept. 29 (I believe it is ).
Jack Carter got good news yesterday about his eye surgery. They took the patch off and he says he can see good out of it. Otta Porter (Mandy's father-in-law ) might get to go home tomorrow. So far things are going good with him after a heart by-pass and a new heart valve. I have not heard from Max Tate. I have tried to call his daughter Jan, but can't get her. I hope all is well with him. Keep remembering them in your prayers. Me, too !
My good neighbor Jim Carter has kept me in tomatoes for my good bacon and tomatoes, and he has also given me a couple messes of okra. Other people have brought squash and cucumbers to the center to share -- Edna, Ann, Doris, Willis and Mary, Thanks to all of you, also to Norman and Betty for the good watermelon and cantaloupes. Speaking of donated food, I'd like to thank the fellow who brings us all the good bread and the company that donates the bread to us. A lot of people come on Mondays to share that bread. That is a good thing.
We had a large crowd out for lunch Friday. I think around 80. We had a very good meal.
The mayor and some council members and three other guys (don't really know the part they play for the city ) talked to us about the sales tax coming up for a vote next month to fund a new water line.
Until next time, be well and happy.
